Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Haier HWR06XCA 6000-Btu Window Air ConditionerCustomer Review: Great Air Conditioner At A Great Price Summary: 5 Stars
I placed the air conditioner in a southwest window in a large room during the height of an unusual coastal heat wave that went on for weeks. I more than got my money's worth. When it becomes available again, I will purchase a second for the first level of my home. Great product at a great price. Oh, I found it light enough to put in the window by myself which, as a woman, is a big deal in my book. (Though I did need help getting it out of the box and bringing up the stairs.)
Customer Review: Great for the money Summary: 5 Stars
Worked very well. This is what we used it for - approx. 150 square foot room in about 85 - 90 F weather. Made the room about 70F. Loud, but hey - it's an air conditioner, they are loud. No mess or dripping, easy to install.
Customer Review: Nice cooling system Summary: 4 Stars
This is a pretty decent cooling air conditioner. It has a lot of buttons that you can use to program your AC along with a remote control. I'm not sure if this is the best AC I've come across but it does help keep my small room cool enough. Overall it's decent.
Customer Review: great air conditioner Summary: 4 Stars
This air conditioner is great. The photo and description are lacking in detail, and half of what has been written is completely incorrect. Please ignore the description amazon.com wrote.
I'll start by telling you a little about what it is you are really thinking of buying.
The air conditioner functions in 3 modes: air conditioner, dehumidifier, and fan.
It has 3 fan speeds, but only low and medium function when it is in fan mode, all 3 work in air conditioner mode.
There is a full-function remote with every button on it that appears on the unit's control panel, but unlike a number of other Haier remotes, it has no display on it.
The description states it is rated for rooms up to 250 square feet, but Haier recommends it for rooms that are 150-200 square feet, and not more.
To my dismay, the description also lies about it having a photo catalytic air sanitizer. I was very disappointed about this. It just has a regular old fashioned air conditioner screen filter.
The description also says it has a 24 hour timer. Let me explain this; you can set a countdown timer to either turn the unit on or off, and the timer can be adjusted in hour increments up to 24 hours. There's no clock on the unit, so you can't simply set it to run from 5 pm to 7 am, for example. (Although for just a few dollars, you can get timers that plug into the outlet and can run power to the unit only during specific hours of the day).
Now, the quick and dirty review.
What I like:
Blows out ice cold air. Very quiet, the compressor doesn't make any loud thumps or clicks. Easy to install. Simple controls, there's a button for everything so you don't need to repeatedly press the same button and have it cycle through modes.
I also like the sleep mode, an automatic 8 hour timer starts when you press the button and the temperature is automatically adjusted slightly warmer while you sleep to keep you from getting cold.
Most importantly, the room it is in, a 175 square foot 3'rd floor (top floor) bedroom is cool and the humidity is gone.
What I don't like:
Largely, my biggest gripe is the description that amazon gives and how it's, well, almost completely wrong. The photo catalytic air purifier was on another model that I had considered purchasing and I wish I had the opportunity to get that instead. But due to the prohibitive cost of return shipping, I'm stuck with this one, and quite unhappy with Amazon.com. I also would really like to have one of the Haier remotes with the display on it, since the air conditioner is around the corner from the bed and I can't see the screen on it without getting up. But that certainly wouldn't have made or broken my decision.
So in the end, it gets 3 stars. I am happy enough with it, I suppose. But very unhappy with amazon, and I wish it arrived as described.
**Follow-up**
I installed it in my window before someone informed me that it is free to return ship something to amazon.com. I never knew! That's great to hear. Still doesn't make me much happier with them, but at least now I can exchange it for a different A/C model.
This one has become slightly louder after having run for a few days, but I would still describe it as quiet, for an air conditioner. It has suffered through a week of 95 degree days with high humidity and nights in the high 70's to low 80's and the room it is in has remained quite cool and comfortable throughout. I have upgraded my rating from the initial review to 4 stars because of it's performance. But for about the same price, I think I'd sacrifice the remote and the 12-button control pad for the more basic controls and higher energy efficiency of another model, Haier ESA3069 Energy Star 6,000-BTU Window Air Conditioner
